The anticipation about the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
